Last Call for Lunch at Nudel

Rural Intelligence Food If you’ve always wanted to have lunch at Nudel—arguably the most talked about restaurant in the Berkshires since it opened one year ago—you better go in the next week. Chef/owner Bjorn Somlo will continue serving dinner Tuesday - Sunday, but he is discontinuing luncheon service on Saturday, September 25.  Unlike the dinner menu that changes every night, lunch was fairly consistent, and regulars will miss his sublime and unforgettable $9 sandwiches such as chicken liver-and-almond pate with bacon and balsamic onions; braised Berkshire pork with pickles and sambal aioli; turkey with Asian BBQ and coleslaw. For the loyal group of weekday regulars who came to rely on the idea that any bad day could be bettered by having lunch at Nudel’s counter, the new schedule has produced a universal response: Argggg!

Rural Intelligence Food Somlo says that his regular customers will benefit ultimately from his putting all his focus on dinner.  “The regulars are what mean the most to me and why I made the decision I have made,” he explains. “Nothing has to be forever but it seems this is the best direction right now.  The main thought behind ending lunch is my continuing desire to offer the customers of Nudel the best in every regard. At this juncture I want to be a better smaller restaurant.  I feel the food for both services and service can be better. I want to work on that.”
