Drowned in a Glass of Water: An Installation by Pepón Osorio in North Adams

For nearly two decades, conceptual artist Pepón Osorio has translated community dynamics and social interactions into large-scale installations based on real life experiences. For the past year, he has been engaged with the people of Williamstown and North Adams through the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition; Drowned in a Glass of Water is the culmination of this year of shared stories, conversations and meals. His multimedia installation on an 18-foot revolving platform slowly reveals a representation of two families on either side —on one side a cluttered home interior dominated by a life-sized mannequin in an elaborate red dress with ruffles crocheted by individuals from this region and Philadelphia, where Osorio lives; and the other side an exterior interpretation of a Berkshire home. The work was first installed in a former Chevrolet dealership in North Adams before moving to WCMA in late September.
