Aki Takahashi at Bard
Wednesday, November 10 @ 7 p.m.

The Henry Cowell Experimental Music Fund at Bard presents a free recital by the world-renowned Japanese pianist Aki Takahashi, one of the leading exponents of new and experimental music for whom noted composers throughout the world—such as John Cage, Morton Feldman, Toru Takemitsu, and Iannis Xenakis——have written work. These composers are represented on the program, along with Henry Cowell’s Aeolian Harp, one of the first pieces written to be played on the inside of the piano, plus Cage’s The Perilous Night, one of his most dynamic “prepared” piano pieces, in which objects are placed between piano strings to modify the sounds. The program also includes a major work written for her by the noted American composer Peter Garland, during which she will be joined by violinist Scot Moore, as well as a short piece by J. S. Bach.
