Bella’s Bartok at Gypsy Joynt and Club Helsinki Hudson
Thursday @ Gypsy Joynt; Friday @ Club Helsinki Hudson
Both shows @ 9 p.m.
Mardi Gras has given way to Lent, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up hard partying, which is what the raucous, Berkshire-based band Bella’s Bartok brings to the table —the very table you may find yourself dancing on. This high-drama, high-energy ten-piece ensemble played its first gig at late Great Barrington Club Helsinki , though it’s hard to imagine how they fit on the postage-stamp-sized stage. Last year the band recorded its first album, At the Kingmaker’s Ball, at Hudson’s Waterfront Studio, so it’s high time they have the chance to stretch out and go a little wild on the more expansive Club Helsinki Hudson stage. And given that their music is variously described as Gypsy-punk wave/Balkan rockabilly/Bohemian circus punk, and many variations thereof, a St. Patrick’s Day party at Gypsy Joynt is entirely appropriate.
