Elvis Perkins and Tracy Bonham at Helsinki

Friday, November 12 @ 9 p.m.

Two hot Hudson Valley singer/songwriters, both rising stars and music world darlings who have chosen the East Coast life over LA-laland, are joining forces in a special concert to benefit Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. A musical career was practically pre-ordained for Elvis Perkins as soon as his father, the actor Anthony Perkins, named him after that other Elvis (not Costello), though it took the the tragedy of 9/11, in which his mother perished on one of the doomed flights, for him to release his first recording, Ash Wednesday. His songs have remained meanginful, moving, and literate, earning him comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Buddy Holly, and The Band. Masts of Manhattan, the new release from Tracy Bonham that has been earning critical accolades, addresses the sometimes jarring contrasts of life in New York City and the upstate weekend homes to which so many urban dwellers—like Bonham herself—retreat. The benefit is the first indoor version of this summer’s starry outdoor concert series to benefit the sanctuary, which featured the likes of Chrissie Hynde and Moby, and was produced by Bonham’s husband, Rolling Stone executive editor Jason Stone.
