John Doe and Jill Sobule at Club Helsinki Hudson
Monday, March 28 @ 8 p.m.
Most of us know rocker/poet/actor John Doe from the good old days, the 1980s, when he used to play with (and married) Exene Cervenka in their seminal L.A. punk band, X. Exene is long since Doe’s ex, and though X has frequently regrouped for special events, both band leaders have pursued their own interests, with Doe following more of a country music path. Somewhere along that path he met socially conscious singer/songwriter Jill Sobule, famous for her 1995 hit single, I Kissed a Girl, which was the first gay-themed song to be played on top-40 radio. The two have been collaborating and performing together, and recorded a fan-funded album, A Day at the Pass, selections from which you’ll have the opportunity to hear performed live by this unlikely duo.
