Krishna Das at Kripalu

Friday, April 1 @ 7:30 p.m. & Saturday, April 2 @ 8 p.m.

Kirtan, the melodic and moving devotional call-and-response chanting that goes hand-in-hand with yoga, has risen in popularity as more Americans are making asanas of themselves. This musical genre is now full of innovators within the form, but none is more prominent than Krishna Das, a longtime practitioner of Bhakti yoga who went to India in the late 1960s to follow Maharaj-ji and returned to his homeland in the mid-seventies to sing the songs of worship he learned at his guru’s feet. Krishan Das is the most widely known and admired Kirtan practitioner, and an inspiration to all the younger devotional chanters who have arisen in his wake in a vibrant musical genre that is now clamoring for its own Grammy Award category.
