The Sound of Synergy in Pittsfield
Pittsfield’s final 3rd Thursday street fair-cum-art-happening for the season on October 16 ( 5 - 8 PM) has a Mockingbird theme to coincide with Barrington Stage Company’s production of To Kill A Mockingbird and the citywide Big Read of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Harper Lee. Besides gallery openings, street musicians, free pumpkin painting for kids (from 4 - 6 PM) and early trick-or-treating at select downtown stores, there will be a free jazz concert at the Berkshire Museum Auditorium at 8 PM. The concert (in conjunction with the Pittsfield CityJazz Festival) has been dubbed The Mockingbird Project and will feature the world premiere of five new pieces of music by Evan Lurie, the musical force behind Nickelodeon’s Backyardigans and a co-founder of the Lounge Lizards, the legendary downtown New York jazz group led by his brother John. Lurie is bringing some of New York’s top session musicians to play—including Art Baron, Steve Bernstein, Charlie Burnham and Smokey Hormel—so Pittsfield will be pulsing like never before.
