ZviDance at Williams

Thursday & Friday, October 28 & 29 @ 8 p.m.

Zoom (work-in-progress) excerpt from Zvi Gotheiner on Vimeo.

A bit more than a year ago, Israeli-born choreographer Zvi Gotheiner brought his NYC-based company, ZviDance, north to MASS MoCA to preview their latest work-in-progress, Zoom. Now they’re back—if a few miles west on Route 2—with the finished piece, which, by its nature, is substantially different at every showing. While most performances begin with a plea for audience members to turn off their cell phones, this multimedia work calls for your electronic devices to be on, fully charged, and ready to text, snap photos, shoot video, and otherwise interact with the dancers. These interactions are incorporated into the work as unscripted dialogue and a real-time visual backdrop, creating a thought-provoking exploration of the rapidly changing and ever-intersecting landscapes of social media and social mores. On Thursday night stick around for a post-performance Q&A with the choreographer, or come early on Saturday night for Cocktails and Context: Art Technology, and the Impact of Social Media (6:30 p.m.; cash bar).
