Yes, It’s Time to Think About Tanglewood

Rural Intelligence Arts Section Image

It’s understandably hard to think about picnics on the lawn when the thermometer in Lenox is 14 °F. But if you care about seeing Yo-Yo Ma or Peter Serkin up close, then now is the time to start planning your summer calendar, because tickets to Tanglewood go on sale beginning Sunday February 17 at 8 AM on the Internet and at 10 AM by phone. Besides James Taylor, the season has many stars ranging from Garrison Keillor, who tapes a live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion on June 28,  to Emanuel Ax and Frederica von Stade.

The event we’re most excited about is Marian McPartland‘s 90th birthday celebration on Saturday afternoon, August 30, which will be taped for McPartland’s long-running NPR show, Piano Jazz. The concert is a rare treat because McPartland is an honest-to-God living legend.
