Dan’s Diary: The New England Boiled Dinner Reconsidered

Rural Intelligence BlogsRoute 7 Grill owner Lester Blumenthal does not mean to be ironic, but he won’t be serving his special $15 corned beef and cabbage dinner on St. Patrick’s Day. He’s serving it March 15 - 19, but the 17th is the restaurant’s regular dark night and he didn’t want to ask the staff to give up its day off. The good news: It’s not your grandfather’s boiled New England dinner. The corn beef is lean and spicy, the cabbage is toothsome and succulent, the carrots are delicately glazed, and the potatoes are roasted to crisp perfection. What’s more, the $15 special comes with a pint of Harpoon Celtic Ale or Guinness.
