Dan’s Diary: Reversal of Fortune at Shakespeare & Company
Two weeks after RI reported how an ebullient Tina Packer announced a jam-packed season for Shakespeare & Company, the Lenox theater troupe issued a press release today announcing major cost-cutting measures, including seven layoffs and a ten percent wage reduction for all year-round employees. It’s impossible to know if S&Co’s fortunes changed dramatically in the past days or if the reality of the economic situation just finally hit home. It’s certain that S&Co has lost some big supporters; after all, troubled AIG was a major sponsor of the last two seasons with prime ads in the playbills. Here’s today’s
