Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials:  Over the Top & Down to Earth

Rural Intelligence CommunityMillbrook is a breed apart, a town that revolves around the equestrian life.  And the Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials is a picture perfect reflection of the community—J. Crew crossed with Ralph Lauren. Hosts Fernanda Kellogg and Kirk Henckels open up their farm to hundreds of horses and thousands of visitors (no admission charge!) as if they are hosting a backyard barbecue for friends. It’s the quintessence of old-fashioned, fuss-free elegance and hospitality. And yet hundreds of patrons show up in elaborate hats and big smiles because they don’t take themsevles too seriously—the Bloody Marys seem to help— even though nearly everyone of them is being photographed by Bill Cunningham, the legendary “On the Street” columnist for The New York Times..
