Attention Tex-Mex lovers and habanera pepper cravers!
Does the term ‘hot stuff” describe your chili? Every time you taste someone else’s, do you find yourself thinking, “You call this chili?” If so, the Hudson Valley Chili Cook-Off could be your opportunity to finally get the recognition you have so long deserved. The contest doesn’t take place until Saturday, October 10th, but the deadline for entrant applications is October 1. So act now.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Best in Show takes home a check for $300, second place is $200, third garners $100. Each entrant is required to bring at least 5 gallons of chili so there will be enough for all the judges to taste, compare and contrast. And who might these judges be? Us. And anyone else who decides that day to pay a $5 fee. We’re talking People’s Choice awards here, and who, we ask, knows chili better than la gente?
In addition to the chili cook-off, there will be plenty of other stuff to do (and eat) that day in Henry Hudson Park, but we’ll fill you in on all that closer to the event. For now, just apply.
Entry forms can be found at the Columbia County Bounty website. Chili cooks must return their applications with a $10 entry fee by October 1st.
