My family and I spend summers in Great Barrington and we discovered Woodland three years ago. We have never had a bad meal there and love the restaurant. It is also a beautiful drive south from Great Barrington. We always manage to take visiting family and friends to the restaurant, and get uniformly great reviews. By the way, we have found that reservations are always a very good idea, even for lunch.
Carlos,
What is it about the Woodland that makes it always feel so right? It’s hard to put your finger on it, isn’t it? And you are so right about reservations. I have gone many times with a friend just to have a burger at the bar and been turned away because the restaurant is packed.

Well, with the New Depression upon us now, seating may be easier! (I never had a reservation.) Yes, this is a friendly, comfortable place with the amazing extra of a very good quality sushi menu. The comfort factor of the new Chives up the road may challenge them a bit, but it’s nice to have such choice and everyone should get their share of well deserved business.
I have had the pleasure of eating at this establishment on several occasions. The food has alway been well prepared and tasty. Fond memories and great food. JimB.
I agree with all the above, and highly recommend the fries with truffle oil OMG, but share it! Also, the seared tuna is delicious! I find reservations are necessary on weekend evenings especially…Great.
We live nearby the Woodland and have since it was opened. It is a sure bet that you will always find something terrific no matter what you have in mind. The regular menu is extensive and the specials which Rob Peters adds each day/week offer even more choices. We consider it the best restaurant in this wonderful community of very fine choices for good dining. It IS ‘our’ local restaurant and we feel very fortunate.

This quintessential neighborhood restaurant can be hard to find, which suits its loyal clientele just fine. Theoretically, you could dine here contentedly six nights a week (it’s dark on Mondays) because the menu is extensive so there is always something you’re in the mood for: arugula-and-goat-cheese salad with crispy lardons, delicate sole almondine, and a steak sandwich served with a mound of spinach and crispy fries. And there’s sushi, too! It’s no wonder Woodland is always packed (even during snowstorms) because no place is as reliably welcoming or consistently delicious.
