Grab a Backpack or Try Art in the Barn at Olana

Ongoing, Thursdays through Sundays @ Noon - 4 p.m.
Rural Intelligence Kids
Olana, the Persian style home of artist Frederic Church, invites families to take advantage of the stunning views both inside and out. Grab a backpack provided by Olana and explore the landscape. The pack provides self-guided activities to enrich family visits. Take your sketches home, or donate them to an ongoing public exhibit. The backpacks are available for borrowing Thursdays through Sundays.

Every Saturday, Art in the Barn offers new projects for kids ages 3 to 5 and caregivers. First take a family tour of the house to be inspired, then come down to the farm and try your hand at being an artist. Activities include music, story-telling, dance, movement and open art studio time for young artists; themes change monthly. To celebrate Columbia County Historical Society’s Inked Over theme, stamping and printing activities will be included in the projects.

On Sundays, get Artlandish! Drop-in for sketch paper, pencils and clipboards. Head out into the landscape to sketch your own view. Come back to the “studio” to use colored pencils, oil pastels
and watercolors to finish your artwork with the help of a local artist. Olana will provide mats and modification tools, or you are welcome to bring your own.
