Bardavon Grooves with Hip Hop Theater

March 18 @ 7 p.m.
Rural Intelligence Kids
The Bardavon will be groovin’ and jammin’ with the dance styles and improv of Hip Hop Theater, returning for their sixth year for one performance only. Hip Hop Theater features Hip Hop legends Yako 440, Mtume, and Playback Theater (NYC). Mtume Gant is a Hip Hop and theater artist from New York City who has been an emcee, producer, actor, writer, and educator. He has been a member of Playback (NYC) since 2002 and has appeared throughout the country. Film and television credits include a role on the hit HBO series Oz. Yako 440 is a multi-instrumentalist, beatboxer, producer, graffiti artist, and burgeoning video maker.

Playback Theater (NYC) uses music, dance, FreeStyle, Hip Hop, and improvisational theater to transform audience member stories into the art of theater. The process is rooted in ancient story telling traditions and tempered by current poetic and musical forms. Playback (NYC) takes their script from audiences—memories, feelings, dreams, social and political conflicts are all transformed into theater by actors and musicians. The Bardavon show will feature local students who participated in a two-week program with the artists.
