Clermont’s Open House Celebrates ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

December 18 @ 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Rural Intelligence Kids
Enjoy the Clermont State Historic Site at your leisure this weekend during the Christmas Open House. The 250-year-old home will be lavishly decorated and families are welcome to wander at their own pace. Docents will be available to answer questions. On view will be handmade decorations and items brought out of storage only once a year for this special season.

As an interesting twist this year, the volunteer decorating committee has worked with the staff to create a decorating scheme based on ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Research has now led many to believe this favorite holiday poem was actually written not by Clement Moore but by a Livingston ancestor, Henry Livingston Jr. Born in 1748, Henry was a cousin of the Clermont Livingstons and wrote this poem for his young children. They made their home at Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie.
