Columbia County Historical Society’s Spring Break Activities

February 21 - 25 @ various times
Rural Intelligence Kids
The Columbia County Historical Society will be extending its popular exhibition Inked Over: Our Printed World, so in conjunction has decided to plan an Inked Over Family Week during February break. The exhibition will include a family scavenger hunt and other special activities. Related activities at the James Vanderpoel House will include a variety of printmaking projects (some old favorites, some new ones) for children of all ages. You can pay per activity or purchase an all-events pass at the Society’s website.


Monday, February 21@ 9 - 11 a.m. and 1 - 3 p.m. Relief Printing Day. Drop in Programs. Children ages 3-8 will learn to make penguin prints, using potatoes, while children ages 8-14 will carve their own linoleum blocks to print. James Vanderpoel House.

Tuesday, February 22 @ 2 p.m.: Puzzle Print Workshop. Learn to make a relief print using materials found around the house, like puzzle pieces and cereal boxes. For children ages 4-12. James Vanderpoel House.

Wednesday, February 23 @ 9 - 11 a.m. and 1 - 3 p.m. Monoprint Day. Drop in Programs. Children will learn to make monoprints; ages 3-8 will make reflection prints, while ages 8-14 try their hands at more advanced monoprint techniques. James Vanderpoel House. 

Thursday, February 24 @ 2 p.m. Fish Print Workshop. Use printmaking and collage techniques to make your own printed shad. For children ages 4-12. James Vanderpoel House. 

Friday, February 25 @ 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Family Tours of Inked Over: Our Printed World. Children and their families are invited to join CCHS for a special guided tour of the exhibition, at the Columbia County Museum, 5 Albany Ave., Kinderhook. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the exhibition before it ends (please note this is the only activity at a different location).
