Environmental Writing for Children Offered in Kinderhook

October 23 @ 1 p.m.
Rural Intelligence Kids
The Columbia County Historical Society (CCHS) invites children ages 8 to 13 (or thereabouts) to join children’s author Jeanette Hopkins and her husband Bruce Hopkins in a literary session connecting writing and illustrating to our natural world, to be held at the James Vanderpoel House. They will share readings from The LadyBug Waltz, When Foxes Wore Red Vests, and The Juggler, as they engage the participants in music, art, writing and environmental activities.

Hopkins has been a classroom and environmental educator for over twenty years and is a past member of the Iowa Writing Project Advisory Board. Her book The LadyBug Waltz came about as Jeanette sat with her granddaughter, Chloe, while she was recovering from open heart surgery. Jeanette sang the song to her granddaughter every night as reassurance.
