Lee Founders’ Weekend Features Plenty of Family Fun

The Founders’ celebration in Lee, Mass., involves an entire weekend of fun, family events. On Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m., Carr Hardware hosts a free Kids Carnival with a castle bounce house, caterpillar craze bounce obstacle house, big kahuna wet slide, putts perfect golf, bottle toss, and frog hop games. The bounce house is also open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 1 to 3 p.m. the Lee Youth Association 30th Birthday Bash features animal balloons, face painting, tattoos, hot dogs and soda. Berkshire County Day School offers free crafts for kids at the Library Saturday as well.

The bounce house will be open Sunday, and the final event of the weekend is the “duck race.” Throughout the weekend there will be a rock climbing wall, live entertainment, dozens of food offerings, craft vendors and an art show. The big VFW Hometown Parade down Main Street steps off at 11 a.m. Saturday. Listing of events and times are at the event website.

The 15th Annual Festival Latino of the Berkshires, held in the First Congregational Church Park on Main Street, is part of Founders’ Weekend. At 4 p.m. Saturday, people of all ethnicities will gather in the park to enjoy a four-hour program of folkloric dance from many different Latin American countries. The performance entertains and educates with the ceremonies, rituals, and stories of these rich cultures. Delicious ethnic dishes will be for sale as well.
