“Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” in Falls Village
The Falls Village Children’s Theater (FVCT) was founded three winters ago by a few frustrated and dedicated parents with stagestruck children who wanted to sing, dance and act. What started with an all-town spring musical—The Wizard of Oz— with 33 kids has grown into a year-round program that offers classes and workshops for children ages 5 to 16, attracting students not only from northwestern Connecticut but also Berkshire, Dutchess and Fairfield counties as well as weekenders from Manhattan.
With cooperation from the Region One board of education, the FVCT has been mounting its productions on the main stage of Housatonic Valley Regional High School. This weekend, 23 FVCT students (from Canaan, Cornwall Bridge, Falls Village, Lakeville, New Fairfield, New York City, Salisbury, and Sherman) will present two performances of Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. Like the classic television series, Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. is hip, entertaining and educational—proof positive that learning can be as fun. Directed and choreographed by Lanny Mitchell, the show features songs that cover a variety of subjects—math, science, history and grammar—ncluding “Three is a Magic Number” and the immortal “Conjunction Junction.”
This is a family-friendly show in every sense, which means you don’t have to have a relative in the cast to appreciate it. What’s more, admission is free, but donations to the not-for-profit Falls Village Children’s Theater will be gratefully accepted.
