Sign Up for Spontaneous Snowshoe Hikes in Columbia County

Winter Months
Rural Intelligence Kids
Now that snow has begun to fall, the Mud Creek Environmental Center in Ghent will begin hosting Spontaneous Snowshoe Hikes based on weather conditions. Anyone interested in participating can sign up to receive email alerts when the outings are scheduled. Same goes for the Columbia Land Conservancy, which bills its outings at the Schor Conservation Area “Spur-of-the-Moment” Snowshoe Treks.

At Mud Creek, each hike will start indoors with a brief lesson on the basics of snowshoeing. Additionally, Mud Creek educators will impart a few animal tracking tips so hikers can look for signs of wildlife on the trail. A limited number of snowshoes are available for borrowing and beginners are always welcome. Mud Creek’s trails are open every day to the public from dawn to dusk. You can also visit their Hudson River Estuary exhibit room Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To sign up for snowshoeing alert call 518.828.4386 ext. 3 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The Columbia Land Conservancy also has a limited number of snowshoes to lend and welcomes beginners; reservations required. To be notified of the next CLC snowshoe trek, contact Jenny Brinker at 518.392.5252, ext. 210 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
