Try Your Hand at Pétanque at The Mount

October 16 @ 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Rural Intelligence Kids
The Mount, the historic estate of Edith Wharton, offers an interesting and unique way to spend a fall afternoon experiencing French culture and a popular, century-old game called Pétanque. The game combines elements of bocce and horseshoes, and is played by tossing steel balls on gravel, grass, or sand towards a small wooden ball. Petanque has been popular for the last century in France, especially among older men. But casual Pétanque is breaking out of its traditional milieu and is fast becoming a favorite pastime of younger Europeans, Asians, and Americans.

Pétanque Day will include other French-themed activities like readings of popular French children’s stories, art creation, and scavenger hunts. Light fare and beverages will be available for purchase. Admission price includes access to the entire estate. The event will be held rain or shine.
