Bard’s Summerscape Festival is a Hudson Valley Happening

Rural Intelligence Parties and Openings Bard Summerscape is like a rural version of the Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It brings together visual and performing artists as both presenters and audience, creating a cultural center of gravity for the Hudson Valley, which is one of the goals of Bard College president Leon Botstein (left with Toni Sosnoff). “This region needs real cultural tourism,” he told guests at the dinner in the Spiegeltent preceding a performance of the Trisha Brown Dance Company in the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. The gala audience was invited back to the Spiegeltent afterwards for make-your-own ice cream sundaes and a surprise, private concert by world- renowned local resident Natalie Merchant.
