A Colonial Celebration At The Bidwell House
Rachel Louchen reports from Monterey. Every year, for one special night after closing for the season, the Bidwell House Museum opens for Our Colonial Holiday Thanksgiving Fundraising Party. This year’s event, on Saturday, November 30, was Bidwell’s seventh annual. The heritage landmark in Monterey, built in 1747, was the former home of Reverend Adonjah and presently serves as a museum; it also hosts educational programs aiming to shed light on early America in Western Massachusetts. Held just two days after Thanksgiving, the Bidwell was all dressed up for the occasion, making it easy to imagine holidays of Colonial past, even if the music, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and a silent auction were 21st-century conceits. Donations to the auction will aid with events and programs in the upcoming season. At left, Manager Eileen Mahoney, Board Vice President Kathryn Roberts, and Judith Runette.
