Deck the Halls at the Berkshire Botanical Garden Holiday Fair

Rural Intelligence StyleThe Berkshire Botanical Garden has a dedicated group of volunteers who act like elves in Santa’s workshop all year long, making handmade things for the Stockbridge center of horticulture. Last summer, they worked with artist Matthew Larkin  of Black Barn Farm to create spectacular wire-and-crystal chandeliers to decorate the tent for the 75th anniversary party. For the last few weeks, they have been making fragrant wreaths, boxwood trees and swags to sell at the 19th annual Holiday Fair, which is a benefit for the garden’s educational and horticultural programs. “We have 23 especially spectacular wreaths that have been designed for us by garden and floral experts,” notes acting executive director Molly Boxer, adding that the contributors include Larkin as well as Bob Hyland of Loomis Creek Nursery, Barbara Bockbrader of Campo de’ Fiori, and Scott Cole of Caffe Pomo d’Oro. What’s more, the Garden’s Herb Associates will be selling their home-made herb mustards, sauces, marinades, vinegars, jellies and spreads made with herbs grown at the garden. “Our horticultural staff has potted some fabulous bulbs for sale, including amaryllis and paperwhites, along with some very cute miniature firs, cyclamen, and festive plants,” says Boxer. “We have hand chosen vendors as well, making the BBG a very festive marketplace for unique Christmas decorations and gifts.”
