RI Selects: Duncan Brine Speaks at Berkshire Botanical Garden

Saturday, January 30, 10 a.m. - noon
Rural Intelligence Style Landscape visionary Duncan Brine will present, “Whole Property Design,” a lecture illustrated with images of his own 6-acre garden in Pawling, NY.  Brine will show how he draws inspiration from existing conditions, rather than imposing an alien concept on the land. In the process, he protects a landscape’s regional quality (or restores it, if it had been previously obscured), reestablishing natives plants and getting invasive species under control.  Brine, an instructor at The New York Botanical Garden, believes in “gardening large”—treating a property as a whole, regardless of size, with one overarching aesthetic that is expressed variously from space to space, depending on conditions.
