Orchid Workshop at Berkshire Botanical

Rural Intelligence StyleWith proper care, an orchid plant can be the best floral value around.  While other, less exotic, potted flowering plants treat us to brief star turns, followed by protracted and messy death scenes, orchids go on and on if they like their situation and if their keeper doesn’t make any fatal mistakes.  Little wonder orchids intimidate.  For those of us who quiver at the mere thought of re-staking, never mind re-potting, or, heaven forbid, pruning an orchid, this Saturday there’s an opportunity to gain some confidence, when Judy Becker, of the Lauray Nursery in Salisbury, CT, conducts her Orchid Workshop at The Berkshire Botanical Gardens.  An accredited judge with the American Orchid Society, Becker, for this occasion, will be in non-judgmental mode.  So bring your bedrangled, half-dead orchid plants, and your healthy ones, too. (Remember to pre-heat the car!) Or come empty-handed, and acquire new plants there.  Those of us suffering from Gardening Deprivation will have fun mucking it up with pots and mixes, our orchids will gain a new lease on life, and we will have learned what it takes to keep these divas in top form.
