A GIANT Tag Sale for Habitat for Humanity

Rural Intelligence Style Section Image

The Hotchkiss gym on Thursday evening before the sale

Judi Moore has been organizing tag sales for Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Connecticut for nearly two decades, and she outgrew two church basements years ago. So when the Hotchkiss School offered her its 15,000 square foot field house six years ago, she was nonplussed. “I thought I’d died and gone to heaven,” she says. “This space is the size of three basketball courts.” And it is filled with all manner of stuff that’s priced to sell. “We don’t charge antique store prices,” says longtime volunteer Kathy Mera, who notes it takes two weeks to organize everything in the gym. There’s plenty of old furniture and even more old dishes, appliances and lamps. “It’s a real tag sale but bigger than any you’ve ever seen,” says Mera.
