Sustainable Fashion + Sustainable Agriculture = Farm Chic II

Volunteers model bracelets for sale to benefit Berkshire Grown.

The locavore movement makes for strange bedfellows. Last year, a group of stylish supporters of Berkshire Grown, the advocacy organization that’s synonymous with the farm-to-table movement, decided to have a costume jewelry swap meet as a fundraiser for BG’s Farm to Table Directory. “Last year’s event was a fabulous cure for cabin fever and raised more than $6,000,” says Amy Rudnick, who is co-chair of this year’s Farm Chic II on February 13 at Castle Street Cafe in Great Barrington. “With this year’s weather, everyone’s cabin fever is even worse, and we are hoping that means our sale will be an even better cure this year.”

Besides donated costume jewerly ($5 - $40), there will be new jewelry and accessories by 14 local artisans and firms—including Dai Ban, Saskia Larraz and smARTWORKS— who will donate part of their sales to Berkshire Grown.  “There is no admission charge,” says Rudnick, who notes that more than 200 shoppers came to last year’s event. “You can order a Bloody Mary to sip while you browse, or you can sit down and have brunch before or after shopping.”
