Columbia County Habitat for Humanity celebrated a successful year by raising six glasses of wine (per guest) at a fundraising event on Saturday, Nov. 9. The gathering was at a wine tasting courtesy of SABBA Vineyard and Winery in Old Chatham, New York. Habitat for Humanity offers future homeowners the opportunity to work alongside its volunteers to build their own safe, sustainable and affordable homes. It also runs the ReStore in Hudson and works with local agencies to identify senior homeowners who need help to make modest repairs. Brenda Adams, Habitat’s executive director, enumerated the organization’s projects, which included closing on two houses by the end of the year, two townhouses under construction in Ancramdale, and others planned for Valatie and Philmont next summer. Thanking the volunteers, Adams said, “Let’s go taste some wine — you’ve earned it.” Board president Peter Cervi led the group in wine tasting practices. Afterward, guests meandered about the SABBA property, which doubles as a sculpture garden created by the vineyard’s owner.
