Dan’s Diary: The Porch Debuts at the Falls Village Inn

Rural Intelligence Food Last winter, interior designer Bunny Williams promised that she would transform the crumbling porch of the Falls Village Inn into a bucolic outdoor dining room by Memorial Day Weekend—and she was good to her word.  With a sky blue ceiling and jaunty striped awning that is angled so that the porch will stay dry during a driving rain storm, the porch, which overlooks the town green, has the air of genteel country club; you can almost hear tennis balls being hit in the distance.  The straightforward lunch menu features conventional and grass-fed burgers ($10 - $15). fish tacos ($14), a Mexican-inspired steak wrap, and Caeasar salads with chicken or shrimp ($10 - $15.) A lunch special on Friday was a classic lobster roll ($15) served with homemade potato chips and a pickle—perfect summer fare.  Now open for lunch and dinner six days a week (closed on Wednesdays), the inn has a big following from nearby Lime Rock Park, and the tables fill up every evening so it’s best to make a reservation, especially if you want to dine on the porch.
