Get ready for your close up.  On Friday, October 15, from 5 - 7:30 p.m., Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society (HALPS) will host a benefit at the lighthouse, featuring hors d’ ouevres prepared by a team led by Noah Sheetz, Executive Chef of the Governor’s Mansion in Albany, along with beers from C. H. Evans Brewing Company in Albany and wine from Millbrook Vineyards & Winery. Other participants include the caterer Jeff Loshinsky, John Peterson, Nicci Cagan, and Rebecca Joyner, Chef and Culinary Director of Dining Services at the Darrow School in New Lebanon. The team will prepare fish contributed by Hudson-based Local Ocean, the world’s largest commercial, “zero-discharge” aquaculture system (think: a non-polluting fish farm).  The rain-or-shine event at the eight-room Hudson-Athens Lighthouse, which has been in operation since 1874, will be filmed for Green Peas TV, a cooking show about regional cuisine.  Tickets/$75 (includes boat to and from Hudson or Athens; must be 21 or older); 518.828.1330

Rural Intelligence FoodOn Saturday, October 23, celebrated food editors, writers, chefs, and a world-champion barista will gather at The Mount in Lenox for “Food for Thought,” a half-day event that will highlight current trends and hot topics in the world of food and coffee.
