Carey Maloney and Hermes Mallea are friends indeed to both the Clermont State Historic Site, where Hermes serves on the board, and to Rural Intelligence, where Carey writes his inimitable Wandering Eye blog. Last Saturday, August 7, on behalf of Clermont, they hosted a benefit cocktail reception at their riverfront house in Germantown and scored an unprecedented social coup when a continguency of nuns from the convent next door turned up. The sisters seemed less impressed than some others with the river view (understandable, since their's is virtually identical), and more amused by the pigs-in-blankets and the M (Group) partners' witty weekend-house decor.
