Kenise Barnes Fine Art presents "Closer to the Sun," a solo exhibition of new paintings by Gabe Brown at its gallery on Fulling Lane in Kent.
Brown's paintings draw on sources that range from the sonic (birdsong and the forces that drive water) to the structural: Peering into plant cells, geometric forms and phenomena visible only at the edges of the natural world. In her statement for the show, she describes searching for meaning in a universe that extends beyond tangible reality, using painting as a way of reinventing what she sees until a new level of meaning emerges.
Brown has shown widely, with work in the permanent collections of the Norton Museum of Art, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, the Gund Collection, and institutions including Capital One, Bank of America, and the University at Albany.
Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday 11am to 5:30pm and Sunday noon to 4pm.
