Lena Dunham discusses her memoir Famesick with writer Robert Becker on October 10 at the United Church of Christ, 8 Bolton Hill Road in Cornwall Village. The event is presented by the Cornwall Library. These days Dunham splits her time between Cornwall and London, so this is a hometown appearance of sorts.
Famesick came out in April from Random House and went to number one on the New York Times bestseller list. It is her second memoir, following 2014's "Not That Kind of Girl," and it covers her life in the public eye after the success of her HBO series "Girls," alongside the chronic illnesses she was dealing with at the same time. The New York Times Magazine's reviewer wrote that Dunham "goes deep," and other critics praised her humor and candor.
Dunham created "Girls," which earned her eight Emmy nominations, and most recently co-created the Netflix limited series "Too Much" with her husband, musician Luis Felber. Her fourth feature film, Good Sex, premieres on Netflix in spring 2027. As a writer she contributes regularly to Vogue, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and the New York Times.
This isn't her first book event in town. In 2016 she read from "Not That Kind of Girl" at the Cornwall Meeting House with her mother, the artist and filmmaker Laurie Simmons.
Becker, who lives in Cornwall and New York City worked on the editorial staff of the Paris Review in the mid-1980s. His biography Nancy Lancaster: Her Life, Her World, Her Art was published by Knopf in 1996 and went through seven printings.
He has written about art, architecture, and history for more than forty years for Architectural Digest, Town & Country, British Vogue, and, more recently, Hyperallergic and Artforum. He moved to Hawaii in 1997 and is now writing a history of 19th-century Hawaii.
