Michael Grohman Brings a Lawyers Eye to Street Photography to Gallerie 271

Gallerie 271 continues its 2026 summer season with "Hurry Up and Wait," a solo photography show by Michael Grohman, running July 31 through August 8. It's Grohman's first exhibition in the Berkshires.

Grohman's professional life has been spent as a practicing lawyer and, more recently, a law school professor, but photography has been a constant since childhood, starting with a Yashica camera. He later received formal training at the International Center for Photography in New York, studying under and drawing inspiration from Aldo Sessa, Gilles Peress, Peter Turnley, and Barron Rachman, a lineage of photojournalists and documentary photographers known for work grounded in observation and immediacy.

He currently serves on the board of the Stanley Greene Foundation, established in memory of the acclaimed war photographer to support young and underserved photographers developing their voice and career.

The work in this show grows out of a tension Grohman has long been drawn to: the immense human need to travel and move, set against the correlative moments of solitude and quiet.

In a world that rarely stops, he hopes the photographs function as a moment to be still and reflect, leaving room for the viewer to fill in the unsaid story behind each image.

His photographs have previously been shown in galleries in Brooklyn and Manhattan and are held in corporate and private collections. The show follows "The Places We'll Go" by Adi Oren and precedes "A Walk in the Woods" by Steve Dietemann, part of Gallerie 271's rolling summer lineup of short, focused exhibitions in Monterey.
