Dale Stewart reports from Hudson.A little rain can't keep a good art show down. This was evident at New Art Dealers Alliance 2012 Art Fair at the Basilica Hudson and at pop-up galleries and exhibitions up and down Warren Street and all around town on Saturday, July 28, where more than 50 galleries staged site-specific installations. This is NADA's second year in Hudson; a notable change from last year was the addition of the Hudson Independent Artists Trail and Open Studios, a community-based project that capitalized on the timing of the two-day fair. Nearby Olana offered shuttle service to its Frederic Church-designed hilltop mansion and grounds; Stair Galleries hosted a two-day art-centered auction, and many shopkeepers commemorated the event with storefront window displays. The Henry Hudson Studios' "Native Hill: Artists of the Valley" was a standout attraction. A site-specific exterior installation by Polly Apfelbaum (pictured left with Arlene Shecket and Apfelbaum's husband, Stan Allen) wrapped around the building, and well-known area artists and up-and-comers showed work in the rough interior pop-up space. How rough? Building owner Henry Haddad stopped mid-renovation to facilitate the show, leaving the artists with a relatively raw exhibition space.
