TurnPark Art Space’s Inaugural Benefit Was Experimental Fun
The passionate dedication of the founders and architects behind TurnPark Art Space in West Stockbridge, Mass. is obvious in the site’s quality of construction, its attention to detail and its peaceful beauty. But the sculpture park/community gathering spot also is imbued with a sense of fun, and a willingness to serve as the venue for all sorts of experimentation. Since its opening in May of 2017, the space has welcomed pop-up markets, food festivals, art workshops, children’s events, dance, theater, music and more. Its inaugural benefit, held on Saturday, Aug. 24, celebrated the spirit of such collaboration. Architect Frida Foberg and visual artist Natasha Holmes created dill+cilantro, an installation built specifically for the benefit that featured edible interactive elements on five structures. Guests picked their own hors d’oeuvres — tandoori chicken, maple-glazed thyme carrots, beet-pickled quail eggs — straight from the artworks. A performance followed in the amphitheater, featuring Boston Symphony Orchestra members Victor Romanul and Michael Zaretsky on violin and viola, with dancer and visual artist Jaanika Peerna creating an artwork behind them. Proceeds from the event will go to help ensure TurnPark continues to be a sanctuary of natural beauty, unique art and innovative programming.
