The Sylvia Center's Farm Dinner Celebrates Kids And Cooking
The 12th annual farm dinner in the field of Katchkie Farm is all about growing a healthy future.

When you’re greeted by little sprites clutching farm-fresh herbs for you to smell, when you witness teens assembling two types of bruschetta that they themselves designed, and when you hear one of them talk about her life-changing experience in a culinary program, you can only be at The Sylvia Center’s Farm Dinner. On Saturday, July 13, supporters of The Sylvia Center converged in the fields of Katchkie Farm in Kinderhook, New York, for the 12th annual fundraising evening. Guests strolled through the Learning Garden, where the 1500 Columbia County children served by Sylvia Center programs have a chance to become farmers (and taste their way through the garden). Great Performances, the catering company owned by Sylvia Center founder Liz Neumark, provided the hors d’oeuvres and dinner under the tent. The auctions, both silent and a lively paddle raise, collected $44,500, all of which will go toward programs that help young people learn to grow and cook healthy food.
