On Friday night, Barrington Hall at Crissey Farm fills with rhythm as Armo brings the Afrobeat to Great Barrington. Founded by longtime Antibalas collaborators, Armo is a fluid collective built around spontaneous, high-energy interpretations of the canon—drawing from the music of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Tony Allen, Ebo Taylor, William Onyeabor, and beyond, alongside original, rhythm-driven compositions. The lineup features a rotating cast of musicians deeply embedded in New York’s Afrobeat and Daptone Records scenes, with members who have logged thousands of performances worldwide.
More than a concert, the evening taps into Afrobeat’s roots as music of resistance and communal joy. Armo’s sound carries the genre’s historic ties to political expression and social movement, while foregrounding groove, improvisation, and collective momentum.
