De Leon-Michel (aka @tteatth on Instagram), a young contemporary expressionist painter from the Hudson Valley, is known for his evocative, large-scale canvases that explore themes of psychosis, dysphoria, and dissociation through textured and layered surfaces.
Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Diego challenges his viewers perceptions by utilizing not only the front, but also the backside of the often reclaimed canvases and stretchers in his work.
By incorporating text and tearing and shredding the canvases, exposing hints of continued work on the reverse side as well as the environment where the piece is displayed, De Leon-Michel’s paintings create a sense of anxiety, alienation, and depth.
Diego not only works on traditional canvas, but also clothing.
