BFMC’s 5th Annual Posh Picnic Honors Kent Jones
Berkshire Film and Media Collaborative honored writer and director Kent Jones at its annual Posh Picnic fundraiser.
The non-profit Berkshire Film and Media Collaborative (BFMC) held its 5th annual Posh Picnic on Sunday, July 22 in the VIP Tent Club at Tanglewood. This year’s honoree, Kent Jones, is a Berkshires native, having grown up in nearby in Pittsfield, Mass. He is a writer and filmmaker whose latest feature, Diane, won Best U.S. Narrative Feature, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. Jones currently serves as the head of the New York Film Festival. BFMC Executive director Diane Pearlman presented Jones with a keepsake that included a personal letter from Martin Scorsese, with whom Jones has worked closely on a number of films. When she contacted Scorsese about the event, Pearlman explained to the crowd, he was kind enough to offer a signed poster for the film The Departed to the silent auction, and was the first to donate to a new BFMC project. In fact, all money raised from this year’s silent auction will go to this new undertaking — a Community Film Fund. As Pearlman noted, many Berkshire-area not-for-profits need videos made for the purposes of branding, marketing, fundraising and social media. Those who don’t can be at a great disadvantage. According to BFMC, “The idea of the Fund is to match whatever monies a non-profit can raise in order to produce a higher quality, more impactful product. It will also create jobs for local videographers and crews.” It sounds exactly like something BFMC was created to do.
