Blending classical technique with contemporary energy, the Grammy-nominated duo Black Violin brings its "Full Circle Tour" to the Mahaiwe mainstage on Friday, February 27 at 8pm. The performance highlights the group’s signature hybrid approach to music, merging the structural depth of classical strings with hip-hop and modern pop.
Members Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus first crossed paths in orchestra class at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, where early foundations in violin and viola laid the groundwork for an expansive career that has since traversed genres and performance contexts. Over nearly two decades, they have performed at major venues across the country, won Showtime at the Apollo in 2005, and toured internationally—bringing a fresh perspective to both classical and popular traditions.
The "Full Circle Tour" takes its name from the duo’s ongoing musical journey, reflecting on roots, growth, and the creative process that continues to shape their sound. The tour programs music that underscores both virtuosity and accessibility, encouraging listeners to reconsider the boundaries between styles and the possibilities of string-driven performance in contemporary music.
