Fiona Breslin reports from Pittsfield. It's a longstanding tradition for Barrington Stage Company to open its main stage for the summer with a classic musical, and this year's opener is Fiddler on the Roof. Despite the heavy subject matter, there was a celebratory air on the night of BSC's gala, Saturday, June 23, even before the curtains rose, as Governor Deval Patrick honored BSC founder/artistic director Julianne Boyd and founding board president Mary Ann Quinson at the naming of the Boyd/Quinson Mainstage, paying tribute to these two visionary women and their 18-year collaboration. Following the performance, guests took their traditional two-block stroll from the theater to St. Joseph’s High School, where state senator Ben Downing thanked BSC's long-time supporter, Berkshire Bank. Guests perused silent auction lots and mingled with Fiddler cast and crew (including actors Stephanie Lynne Mason, Rececca Kuznik, Dawn Rother, and Joanna Glushak, above) before the dinner and live auction began. Fiddler on the Roof runs through July 14.
