There was no one more tweedy and New England than Katharine Hepburn, which is why it seems so apt that the TriArts Sharon Playhouse is presenting Tea at Five, a one woman show about the legendary actress, for the Thanksgiving weekend. The production originated last summer at TheatreWorks in New Milford, where playwright Matthew Lombardo said actress Noel Desiato's performance was the best he'd ever seen since his play ran off Broadway in 2003 with Kate Mulgrew. The first act is set in 1938 when the 31-year-old actress is waiting by the phone in Old Saybrook, CT, anxious to hear if she's been cast in Gone With the Wind. The second act is set in 1983 when Hepburn has time to reflect on her long affair with the long gone Spencer Tracy. Alice Bemand, TriArts executive director, and Michael Berkeley, the creative director, decided that Tea at Five was perfect fare for the long holiday weekend. "I knew our smaller, more intimate Bok Gallery was just right for this production, and I felt it was a show that deserved to be seen," said Bemand.” Added Berkeley: “It is a time when many in the area have company for the holiday weekend, and are looking for something to do.
