Chesterwood

Dale Stewart reports from Stockbridge. Photos by David Franck. On Saturday, June 22, Chesterwood, famously known as the country home and studio of iconic American sculptor Daniel Chester French, kicked off its summer season and the 35th anniversary of its Contemporary Sculpture exhibit. Guest juror and Sculpture magazine editor Glenn Harper, pictured left with Sharon Bates, Albany Airport Director of Art and Culture, selected the 26 artists whose new works will be on display until October 31. Patrons strolled Chesterwood's luscious 122-acre grounds and formal gardens, sipping on local Wandering Star micro brews while munching on chicken and shrimp satay from You Are Cordially Invited event planners. They also had the unique ability to listen to personal commentary by the exhibition’s guest juror and the participating artists on a cell-phone audio tour, created specifically for the show.
