The Clay Way Studio Tour takes visitors through nine working pottery studios in Litchfield County, Connecticut, and Wingdale, New York, where nine host potters welcome 16 guest artists, 25 in all. Visitors drive from studio to studio at their own pace, and a printable list and map and an online tour map are on the website. The tour was the idea of Woodbury potter and tile maker Linda Boston, who wanted western Connecticut to have the kind of pottery weekends held in nearby and nation wide.

In Connecticut

  • Todd Piker, Cornwall Bridge Pottery, 69 Kent Road South, Cornwall Bridge. Piker apprenticed at 18 with the English potter Michael Cardew and built the studio’s 35-foot wood-fired tube kiln in 1974, based on a design from 10th-century China. Guests are Stephanie Haines and Sanah Petersen.
  • Jane Herold, 54 Sharon Goshen Turnpike, West Cornwall, with guests Steve Johnson, Harry Levenstein, and Matin Malikzada.
  • Christine Owen, 240 Cornwall Road, Warren, with guest Jessica Dubin.
  • Will Talbot, Bell Hill Pottery, 50 Bell Hill Road, Washington, with guests Tom Knox and Alex Lebedev.
  • Joy Brown, 463 Segar Mountain Road, South Kent. Brown makes figurative ceramic and bronze sculpture, and her figures stand along Main Street in Kent. Nine of her bronzes were shown on Broadway in New York in 2017. She fires her work in a 30-foot Japanese-style wood-fired kiln. Guests are Bonnie Levine and Brendan Moore.
  • Alison Palmer, 48 Stone Fences Lane, South Kent, with guests Ben Eberle, James Guggina, and Paula Shalan.

In Wingdale, NY

  • Amy Brenner, 131 Old Branch Road, with guests Lynn Behrendt and Kathleen Heidemann
  • Ann Heywood, 54 Askins Road, with guest Jackie Sedlock
  • Drew Montgomery, Montgomery Pottery, 17 Dog Tail Corners Road

The studios span the Cornwall, Warren, Washington, and Kent area in Connecticut and the Wingdale hamlet across the state line in Dutchess County. Visitors can start at any of them.
