May 16–17 | Stanfordville, NY | Free (parking reservation required)
If you're planning to grow dahlias this summer, this is the weekend to load up. Foxtrot Farm & Flowers in Stanfordville hosts Dahlia Daze on May 16 and 17, a two-day multi-farm tuber and seedling sale that brings together seven Hudson Valley growers on one property. Saturday runs 10am to 3pm, Sunday 10am to 2pm. Parking reservations are required and each slot is 45 minutes.
Foxtrot is the project of Kate Farrar, who spent over a decade working on teams at farms including Hearty Roots, Sparrowbush Farm, and Suarez Brewing before starting the five-acre Stanfordville farm in 2021. She says she likes growing things people aren't used to seeing in arrangements. The farm has grown into a genuine community hub, hosting dinners, art exhibitions, yoga, workshops, and now this. The weekend also marks the opening of Foxtrot's new brick-and-mortar flower shop on the property.
The vendor lineup for Dahlia Daze covers a lot of ground: Shoving Leopard Farm, Bear Creek Farm, Petal Creek Farm, Seed on Hudson, Sea Change Farm & Flowers, and Titusville Farm will all be selling tubers and cuttings alongside Foxtrot. Veggie, herb, and flower seedlings from Thistlepass Farm, Ayni Herb Farm, and Titusville are also available. On Saturday at 2pm, the Wappinger Dahlia and Improvement Society gives a talk on local dahlia breeding history. Fair Play's hot dog cart will be on site both days to supply their own delicious tubers.
